President John Dramani Mahama officially launched the construction of the 120-hectare Tema Integrated Industrial Park on Monday, June 29, 2026. This project is a key initiative of his administration.
The industrial park aims to accelerate Ghana’s industrialisation drive. It is expected to create approximately 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. The park will also strengthen Ghana’s position as a major industrial player in West Africa.
This development is part of the government's wider strategy to promote value addition and attract foreign investment. It aligns with the 24-Hour Economy policy, designed to boost Ghana’s manufacturing sector. The park will focus on using Ghana's natural resources for local production and export. This project builds on earlier efforts to revive and expand sectors like aluminium, steel, and agro-processing.
President Mahama highlighted the project's importance during the launch event. He described it as crucial for transforming Tema into a modern industrial hub. The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), Yaw Twumasi Ankrah, also attended the ceremony. He noted the collaboration between GIADEC, Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms (Arise IIP), and Tema Development Corporation (TDC) Ltd. Arise IIP is a prominent industrial zone developer in Africa.
Construction work is scheduled to begin immediately. The first phase of the park is targeted for completion within the next 24 to 36 months. The project's success could significantly impact Ghana's employment rates and economic diversification. It will offer insights into the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in national development. Decision-makers and markets will closely monitor its progress and job creation figures. The park is anticipated to house various industries, leveraging Ghana’s natural resources.
The park's development will contribute to Ghana's long-term economic growth. It underscores the government's commitment to industrial development. The creation of 6,000 jobs provides a substantial boost to the labour market. This initiative could attract more foreign direct investment into Ghana's manufacturing sector. The focus on downstream manufacturing aims to add more value to raw materials. This strategy is vital for sustainable economic progress and reducing reliance on raw material exports. The integration of various industries within the park will foster a self-sustaining economic ecosystem.
