The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) has pledged to promote Ghana as a leading tourism destination after its executive council completed a five-day familiarisation tour. This initiative aims to strengthen tourism collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria, positioning Ghana as a top choice for leisure and premium travel in West Africa.

The visit, orchestrated by Safari World, sought to deepen its presence within the Nigerian travel market. NANTA’s delegation experienced Ghana’s key attractions and renowned hospitality, including Aqua Safari Eco Park in Ada. This direct engagement is crucial for converting potential visitors into actual tourists, leveraging the influence of Nigerian travel professionals.

This collaboration aligns with Ghana's broader economic strategy to diversify revenue streams and boost its services sector, particularly tourism. The government has consistently invested in promoting Ghana's cultural heritage and natural beauty to attract foreign exchange. Increased tourism from Nigeria, a significant regional economic power, can provide a substantial boost to local businesses and employment.

Dr. Yinka Folami, President of NANTA, described the visit as the beginning of a long-term partnership with Safari World. He stated, "I have come home. That is exactly how we have been made to feel." Dr. Folami emphasised that NANTA would encourage people across Nigeria and beyond to experience Ghana's offerings, acting as ambassadors for the destination.

The partnership's success will depend on sustained promotional efforts and the continued enhancement of Ghana's tourism infrastructure. Decision-makers in Ghana's tourism sector will monitor visitor numbers from Nigeria closely. This collaboration could set a precedent for similar partnerships with other West African nations, further solidifying Ghana's position as a regional tourism hub.

The familiarisation tour included visits to Safari Homes in Accra and Aqua Safari Eco Park in Ada. Delegates were entertained by the Ekome Intercultural Music and Dance Ensemble, featuring traditional performances and a fire dance. Ayoola Olatunji, Public Relations Officer of NANTA, praised the cultural showcase, calling it one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.

Mr. Olatunji expressed his inspiration to become an ambassador for Ghana, stating, "We have seen what we want to sell to the world." He highlighted the readiness of Africa to welcome visitors and the unique experiences offered by Safari World. This personal endorsement from influential travel professionals is invaluable for marketing Ghana internationally.

The tour also included visits to Safari Island Cruise, Safari Eco Park, Safari Nautica, Safari Recreation and Sports, and Safari Valley Eco Resort in Dawu. The visit concluded with an Executive Dinner on July 21, bringing together tourism stakeholders from both Ghana and Nigeria. This event aimed to strengthen existing partnerships and create new business opportunities.

The strategic focus on the Nigerian market reflects a recognition of its potential for outbound tourism. Ghana's proximity and shared cultural heritage make it an attractive destination for Nigerian travellers. This initiative is a practical step towards achieving Ghana's goal of becoming a preferred tourism destination in West Africa, contributing significantly to the national economy.
