Ghanaian skincare brand KAEME Body Care Limited has been named the DHL ESG Excellence Exporter of the Year. The award was presented on August 13, 2026, at the DHL MEA Innovation Centre in Dubai.
The recognition highlights KAEME's strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. This includes significant work with communities in Juaso and Bososo, areas known for artisanal gold mining. KAEME developed formulations, trained producers in Good Manufacturing Practices, and established logistics for international markets.
This achievement underscores Ghana's potential in developing sustainable export-oriented businesses. It aligns with broader national efforts to diversify the economy and promote value-added products. The award also showcases how local resources and community engagement can drive international success.
Freda Obeng-Ampofo, KAEME's founder, stated the company's approach was driven by building sustainable businesses around Ghanaian resources. She emphasized that the goal was not primarily ESG recognition but rather leveraging local ingredients and community potential. Ms. Obeng-Ampofo added that these standards provide a competitive advantage for African businesses.
KAEME has invested its own funds in transitioning its Accra production facility to solar energy, which is 65 percent complete. The company sources more than 70 percent of its raw materials locally in Ghana. This local sourcing has reduced transport-related emissions by 72 percent compared with imported alternatives. KAEME also maintains transparent financial reporting and ethical sourcing standards.
The company's success demonstrates the increasing importance of ESG factors in global trade and investment. It signals to other Ghanaian businesses the value of integrating sustainability into their operations. This award could encourage more local companies to adopt similar practices for international competitiveness.
KAEME's win adds to its previous accolades, including Skincare Brand of the Year awards from 2022 to 2024. It also received the CSR Project of the Year in 2024 and Manufacturing Company of the Year in 2025. The Ghana Consulate in Dubai also celebrated KAEME's achievement, further boosting its international profile. This recognition positions KAEME as a leader in Ghana's burgeoning natural beauty and personal care sector.
The company plans to make its solar-powered Accra facility available as shared infrastructure for other African women formulators. This initiative could foster collaboration and growth within the regional industry. KAEME's commitment to local sourcing and community empowerment sets a high standard for corporate responsibility in Ghana.
