The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) is actively seeking to deepen investment ties with the French business community. This initiative aims to intensify Ghana's efforts to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into key sectors of the economy. The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance Ghana's economic competitiveness and foster job creation.
Simon Madjie, the Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, led discussions with a delegation from the French Chamber of Commerce in Ghana (CCI France Ghana). The meeting explored opportunities for stronger investment cooperation between Ghana and French businesses. The delegation included CCI France Ghana Board President Guillaume Valence, Vice-President Adedamola Adelabu, and Managing Director Maxine Mamle Reindorf-Partey. These discussions focused on Ghana’s investment climate, priority sectors, investor aftercare, and policy engagement.
This engagement fits into Ghana's ongoing drive to boost its economic growth and diversify its industrial base. The nation has consistently sought foreign capital to support its development agenda, particularly in areas that can lead to technology transfer and increased productivity. Previous efforts, such as the GIPA Act, have strengthened Ghana's framework for investment promotion, indicating a sustained commitment to attracting and retaining foreign investors. Ghana's economic stability and strategic location in West Africa make it an attractive destination for investors looking to access the broader regional market.
Mr. Madjie emphasized the importance of understanding the experiences of investors already operating in Ghana. He stated that using their feedback is crucial to improving the country’s investment environment. He also highlighted that stronger partnerships between GIPA, business chambers, and investor groups would be critical to improving Ghana’s competitiveness. These partnerships will also help maintain sustained dialogue with the private sector.
The discussions also covered the upcoming Ambition Africa programme, which connects African and French businesses, investors, public institutions, and development partners. This programme aims to explore trade and investment opportunities across the continent. GIPA views this as a significant opportunity to showcase Ghana’s investment potential and link local businesses with French investors seeking opportunities in Africa. The renewed engagement forms part of broader efforts by GIPA to position Ghana as a competitive destination for foreign capital. It also ensures that existing investors receive the necessary support to expand their operations.
For Ghana, deeper engagement with French businesses could unlock substantial investment in technology, commercial farming, agro-processing, smart agriculture, manufacturing, and services. These sectors were identified as having significant potential for increased French investment. Such investments would create opportunities for job creation, knowledge transfer, and stronger links between Ghanaian and international businesses. The focus on investor sentiment analysis and promoting success stories of French businesses in Ghana will be key to attracting more capital. This strategic approach aims to build confidence and demonstrate the viability of investing in the Ghanaian economy.
