President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to becoming a strategic investment destination. He urged global investors and development partners to take advantage of Africa’s growing opportunities. This message was delivered at the Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026 in Washington, D.C.
Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, spoke on the President’s behalf. He stated Ghana was ready to partner investors who believe in Africa’s economic potential. The summit gathered government officials, investors, and business leaders to explore investment opportunities across Africa.
Ghana’s economic transformation agenda focuses on strengthening macroeconomic stability. It also aims to expand productive capacity, attract investment, and create jobs. The government’s plan goes beyond economic recovery. It emphasises industrialisation, value addition, productivity, and inclusive growth. These efforts are crucial for long-term national prosperity.
The 24-Hour Economy Programme is a key initiative highlighted by President Mahama. Another is the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project. These programmes aim to increase production and unlock investment opportunities. They also seek to expand economic activity across the country. These initiatives demonstrate a clear strategy for economic growth.
President Mahama identified several key sectors open to investment. These include energy, technology, agriculture, and mining. Tourism, maritime development, infrastructure, and manufacturing also offer significant potential. The Feed Ghana Programme will make agriculture a major pillar of Ghana’s economic transformation. It aims to increase food production and reduce import dependence. This will create jobs and supply industries with local raw materials.
On industrialisation, the President highlighted plans to develop industrial parks and special economic zones. These include the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone. The Dawa Industrial Zone and Tema Integrated Industrial Park are also part of these plans. These zones will attract manufacturing and create employment.
Ghana holds a strategic advantage as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat. President Mahama described Ghana as a gateway to a continental market. This market has more than 1.3 billion people. It boasts a combined GDP exceeding US$3.5 trillion, which is approximately GHS 48 trillion. The AfCFTA offers significant opportunities for businesses. It connects African markets, expands trade, and creates new avenues for enterprise growth.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, also attended the summit. He urged investors to recognise Africa’s vast potential. He called on African leaders to strengthen governance. Good governance builds investor confidence and supports development. Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, also called for investment partnerships. These partnerships should create jobs and empower Africa’s youth. The summit concluded with a strong call to the global investment community: “Invest in Ghana. Invest in Africa.”
