Telecel Ghana has launched a major nationwide network infrastructure expansion program. The initiative aims to deliver faster internet speeds, significantly increase capacity, and provide reliable connectivity to millions of customers across the country.

This ambitious upgrade began with a high-tech overhaul at its Social Welfare mast in Madina. This action fulfills a promise made in March by Telecel Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, to begin major network improvements in the second quarter of the year. The company is deploying advanced wireless technologies to address heavy data traffic and eliminate congestion.

This network modernization is crucial for Ghana’s growing digital economy. Increased data usage demands robust infrastructure. These improvements align with broader trends of digital transformation across West Africa. The expansion also supports the government's drive for greater digital inclusion.

Ebenezer Siebu, Director of Technology at Telecel, confirmed the targeted capacity boost. He stated, “We are building extra capacity on this site to reduce congestion and increase internet speeds for thousands of customers in Madina.” Mr. Siebu added, “These investments ensure our customers enjoy faster speeds, better voice quality and consistently stronger connection as data usage continues to grow.”

Over the course of this year, Telecel will roll out similar advanced technology upgrades across more than 100 high-traffic sites nationwide. Additionally, over 1,000 sites will undergo varying levels of enhancement as part of this broader strategy. This extensive upgrade signals a proactive approach to meet future demand. It also aims to maintain Telecel's competitive edge in Ghana’s telecommunications market.

The company also prioritizes safety during these intensive works. Telecel’s Health and Safety team was actively on the ground during the Madina installation. Safety officers from Telecel monitored engineers and contractors from Huawei. They ensured strict operational standards and safe work practices were followed. This commitment to safety protects workers and ensures the quality of the new infrastructure.

Residents, like Adiza, a nursing mother in Madina, anticipate the benefits. She uses Telecel daily for social media. She expressed excitement about her improved connectivity. This reflects the tangible impact of such infrastructure projects on daily lives.

Anthony Sam, Head of Networks, emphasized that these investments go beyond hardware. They fulfill Telecel’s core brand philosophy: “connect energies and add value to communities.” He noted, “We are approaching our work with passion, commitment and purpose.” This strategic investment signifies Telecel Ghana's dedication to building a robust, future-ready network. It will support the evolving digital demands of a rapidly growing subscriber base. Since rebranding, Telecel Ghana has expanded its physical footprint significantly. It grew from roughly 5,000 sites to 9,000 nationwide. This expansion will likely improve overall service quality and customer satisfaction.
