Telecel Ghana has commissioned and handed over a fully equipped 42-unit computer laboratory to the University of Ghana. This significant donation aims to support digital learning, research, and innovation at Ghana's premier university.
The information technology lab, a corporate social responsibility initiative, directly responds to a request from the university's leadership. It reflects Telecel Ghana's commitment to strengthening the country's digital education ecosystem. The new facility includes an 86-inch interactive touchscreen display and dedicated internet connectivity, providing students with modern tools for their studies.
This initiative builds on a long-standing relationship between Telecel Ghana and the University of Ghana. Since 2010, Telecel Ghana has provided the university with dedicated internet connectivity, leased line services, and tertiary connectivity solutions. Plans are currently underway to increase network capacity further, meeting the growing demand for digital teaching, learning, and research across the campus.
Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana, spoke at the commissioning ceremony at the university's IT Directorate. She described the project as a gesture of appreciation to one of the telecommunications company's longest-standing institutional partners. She emphasized that digital inclusion occurs when people have access to reliable connectivity, devices, skills, and an environment that helps them unlock their full potential. This project is therefore important to the company's mission.
Professor Gordon Awandare, the University's Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, expressed profound appreciation to Telecel Ghana. He reaffirmed the value of the partnership in supporting the university's digital transformation agenda. He noted that initiatives enhancing the student experience help maintain the university's status as the preferred institution in Ghana. He is confident this computer lab will make a meaningful difference in students' lives.
Nii Lartey, Acting Director of Enterprise Business at Telecel Ghana, highlighted the company's decade-long investment in building a stronger digital environment for the university community. These investments include connectivity infrastructure, tertiary bundles for students, and hosting events like the Telecel Turn Up music experience for freshers. He assured continued commitment to deepening this partnership for the benefit of students, faculty, and the wider university community.
