Richard Acheampong, Chief Home Officer of MTN Ghana, spoke at the MTN Home edition of Bright Conversations. He noted that many households still primarily depend on mobile data. This occurs despite the clear need for stronger and more consistent internet connections. Mr. Acheampong explained that fibre broadband provides a dedicated connection, unlike mobile internet which is designed for individual users on the move.
Mr. Acheampong emphasized the superior capacity of fibre broadband. "The value for fibre is that when you get home, you have multiple users and multiple devices at the same time," he stated. He added that a single fibre connection could support up to 50 people in a home, a capability not achievable with mobile data.
Fibre broadband is better suited for activities like remote work, online learning, video conferencing, and streaming. It also supports smart home applications and online gaming. MTN Fibre Broadband can deliver speeds up to 500 megabits per second (Mbps). This significantly surpasses average 4G mobile connections, which offer lower speeds and are subject to network conditions.
The key advantages of fibre are not just speed but also reliability and stability. Mr. Acheampong highlighted these aspects, especially for activities where interruptions can have serious consequences. "Fibre is about reliability, and it's about stability. It's not even a function of how much you're paying. It's about the medium to long-term value," he explained.
