Ghana will host a major investment initiative for artificial intelligence (AI) startups in 2026. The Estonian Business Angels Network (EstBAN) has partnered with the Pan African AI & Innovation Summit (PAAIS) 2026 to fund emerging AI companies. This significant collaboration includes co-underwriting the 'AI Dragon's Den', a competitive platform for African AI startups.
The 'AI Dragon's Den' will provide a crucial opportunity for African founders to pitch their ideas to international and regional investors. Winners from this competition will gain visibility among angel investors and access to experienced mentors. They will also explore potential investment and collaboration opportunities within the EstBAN network.
This partnership arrives at a strategic time for Ghana. President Mahama’s administration launched the National AI Strategy in April 2026. This strategy establishes a clear plan for AI-led growth across health, agriculture, finance, and public services. Private investment partnerships, like the one with EstBAN, are central to the strategy’s goal of linking Ghanaian and African founders with credible foreign capital networks. Estonia is widely recognized as a global leader in digital governance, having developed e-governance systems adopted by many countries. Its business angel community has already invested in several globally recognized deep-tech and AI ventures.
Felix Donkor, Convenor of the Pan African AI & Innovation Summit, emphasized the partnership's focus on tangible outcomes. “We are not interested in conversations about Africa’s AI potential in the abstract,” he stated. “We want founders funded, ideas tested, and partnerships that create durable value on the continent.” This direct approach underscores a commitment to practical investment over theoretical discussions.
The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, an institutional partner of PAAIS 2026, is central to this initiative's success. The Ministry is expected to promote the AI Dragon’s Den as a flagship program for Ghana's AI ambitions. Their active promotion will strengthen Ghana's position as a preferred destination for AI investment and talent development in Africa. This partnership could attract more foreign direct investment into Ghana's nascent technology sector, particularly in AI. Applications for the AI Dragon’s Den competition will commence in the coming weeks, promising new opportunities for local innovators.
