Government has paid GHS877 million to the Ghana School Feeding Programme. The 2026 budget line for the scheme is GHS1.98 billion.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson told Parliament during the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in July that the GHS877 million had been paid to provide meals and encourage school attendance. The figure sits against the full-year appropriation of GHS1.98 billion set in the 2026 Budget Statement.
Gender Minister Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey told Parliament in June 2026 that the programme did not receive financial clearance under the 2026 appropriation to cover additional schools this year. She said there is a long-term policy to strengthen and expand the scheme within available resources, but for this year there is no possibility of expansion.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme provides daily meals to pupils in selected public basic schools. It sits under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
