The Ghana Police Service has arrested 24 suspected criminals in a major intelligence-led operation across the Ashanti Region. This significant swoop led to the recovery of a firearm, suspected narcotic substances, various vehicles, and ammunition. The arrests included 21 men and three women, according to the Police Service. Among those apprehended was Richmond Okyere, aged 49, found allegedly possessing a pump-action shotgun.
Seized items included an unregistered Toyota Highlander and a Mercedes-Benz saloon vehicle with registration number AS 8724-Z. Authorities also recovered 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and 90 tablets of 225mg Tramadol. Additional seizures included 140 tablets of 250mg Tramadol and 11 tablets of Royal 225mg.
Further exhibits included 38 narcotics processing materials and bottles of Femude drink suspected of being laced with narcotic substances. Police also found 40 locally manufactured toffees believed to contain narcotic substances. Investigators retrieved a Dell laptop, two LED television sets, and various sums of money suspected to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.
All 24 suspects remain in custody to assist with ongoing investigations. The recovered items have been retained for meticulous forensic examination and evidential purposes. The police have affirmed that individuals found culpable after investigations will be brought before the courts.
