    Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, has called for the mandatory use of non-permeable bases at all landfill sites across Ghana. This critical measure aims to prevent contaminated liquid, known as leachate, from seeping into the soil and groundwater, safeguarding public health and the environment.

    The proposal directly addresses the escalating environmental and public health risks posed by leachate from Ghana's landfill sites. Leachate, a toxic liquid formed when water passes through waste, carries harmful chemicals and pollutants.     The implementation of mandatory non-permeable bases will significantly impact public health and environmental quality.
