Former President John Mahama has received an invitation to attend the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, Serbia. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić extended the special invitation, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Mr. Ablakwa confirmed the invitation following a meeting with His Excellency Milutin Stanojevic, the Serbian Ambassador to Ghana. The anniversary celebrations are scheduled for August 31 to September 1, 2026. Mr. Mahama will serve as a Special Guest of Honour at the event.
This invitation underscores Ghana's significant historical ties to the Non-Aligned Movement. Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was a founding father of NAM.
