Ghana’s Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty programme is moving from 350,000 to 400,000 households. Eligible beneficiaries are due to start receiving cash transfers from 14 September 2026, Gender Minister Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey said on 8 September.
She told a community dialogue at Chorkor that assessment and onboarding for the expansion are complete and that funding is available. The step adds about 50,000 households to the cash-transfer roll.
The minister said some existing beneficiaries are graduating because their situations have improved, with others moving onto different social protection schemes. She said about 60 to 70% of some old lists will come off, with the rest staying on or joining new recipients.
She blamed part of the delay on weak or missing network coverage in remote communities during onboarding. The 2026 budget allocates GHS1.1 billion to LEAP, the highest line since the programme began.
