A recent poll from Global InfoAnalytics shows that Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is the favored choice among potential National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters. He secured an impressive 62% support in a hypothetical contest against the NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who received 38%.

This significant lead for Dr. Ato Forson indicates a strong preference among a wide range of party affiliates. The poll suggests that many swing supporters, particularly those aligned with other potential contenders, would largely rally behind him. This broad appeal positions him strongly within the party's internal dynamics.

This finding is important for Ghana's political landscape, especially as the NDC prepares for future elections. Such internal polling data often signals shifts in public sentiment and potential leadership trajectories within major political parties. It provides insights into how the party's base might consolidate support around a particular candidate.

The Global InfoAnalytics survey further details the breakdown of support from various factions. Among supporters of former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, 68% would back Dr. Ato Forson, while 32% would support Mr. Asiedu Nketia. Similarly, 66% of supporters linked to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated they would favor Dr. Ato Forson, compared to 34% for Mr. Asiedu Nketia. Supporters associated with Haruna Iddrisu also leaned towards Dr. Ato Forson by 66% to 34%.

Even more compelling was the support from the bloc of Professor Joshua Alabi, Mr. Asiedu Nketia's former deputy. A commanding 95% of these supporters reportedly preferred Dr. Ato Forson, with only 5% backing Mr. Asiedu Nketia. Mr. Asiedu Nketia only held a clear advantage among his own loyal supporters, where 91% remained steadfast, and 9% would switch to Dr. Ato Forson.

The results of this poll suggest that Dr. Ato Forson commands substantial cross-factional appeal within the NDC. This broad base of support could be a critical factor in any future leadership contest. Political analysts will closely watch how these preferences translate into concrete actions as the party moves towards selecting its flagbearer for upcoming general elections.

The outcomes could influence campaign strategies and resource allocations within the NDC. Decision-makers and party delegates will likely consider these numbers seriously when assessing viability. This poll provides an early indicator of potential shifts in the party’s internal power dynamics.
