Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially begun work on a new conference hall at the Wa Naa's Palace. This marks the start of Phase One of the Shea Park Industrial Resource Hub. The project aims to preserve the historical identity of the five-century-old palace.

The renovation will maintain the original Sudanese architectural style. Efforts are underway to secure UNESCO World Heritage Site status for the palace. Mr. Bagbin emphasized that this is a "transgenerational act" for future generations. He assured contractors that payments would be made promptly, addressing past delays in state payments.

This initiative is linked to broader plans for economic development in the Upper West Region. Mr. Bagbin aims to attract investment by creating a welcoming environment. He contrasted this with negative perceptions of Wa, highlighting its past cleanliness records. The project signifies pride and a signal to investors that the region is open for business.

The Waala State, represented by Jinpenhi Naa Kadiri Ibrahim, expressed deep appreciation. The Wa Naa's secretary stated that acknowledging Mr. Bagbin's contribution was difficult due to its magnitude. The new conference hall is seen as another milestone for the Waala State. The project supervisor, Professor Kwame Ado, was commended for balancing modern design with heritage preservation.

The construction of the new conference hall could potentially be completed for this year's Dumba Festival. Mr. Bagbin also addressed misconceptions about his background, reminding people of his successful legal career before politics. He stressed the importance of unity, warning that conflicts drive away investors. Consultation teams have already gathered views across all 11 districts of the region.

The project is significant for its cultural preservation and economic development goals. The approximately GHS 30 million investment in Phase One is expected to drive further opportunities. This project represents a tangible contribution to the region, measured by its impact rather than just words. This initiative aligns with the government's focus on regional development and tourism.
