The President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Likpe Traditional Council, Nana Soglo Allorh, has strongly condemned fresh killings and attacks in Nkwanta South. These recent incidents include three confirmed deaths and nine injuries in the farming community of Odomi. The condemnation comes barely a week after the House engaged with opposing groups to restore calm. Nana Soglo Allorh expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict. He stated that retaliatory attacks are increasing and spreading across various communities, farms, and bush paths. Residents are now forced to leave their homes for safety due to the pervasive unrest. This new wave of violence directly disrupts recent peace efforts by the Oti Regional House of Chiefs. The House met last Friday and established a seven-member committee to investigate the situation. The committee's goal is to propose a lasting solution to the protracted conflict. However, the violence escalated almost immediately after the meeting, with a man and his two children reportedly killed on a farm at Keri the very next day. Nana Soglo Allorh revealed a critical challenge hindering these peace initiatives. He noted that the newly formed committee has not yet started its work due to a severe lack of funds. He lamented the neglect faced by the Oti Regional House of Chiefs since its establishment. This neglect has left the institution without the necessary resources to carry out its responsibilities effectively. The absence of financial support means the House cannot properly execute its mandate of ensuring peace and stability in the region. Nana Soglo Allorh called for immediate and coordinated action from all relevant bodies. He specifically mentioned the government, security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Their combined efforts are crucial to restore calm, protect lives and property, and promote dialogue. Prioritizing dialogue is essential to prevent further loss of life and secure stability in Nkwanta South. Without adequate funding, the Oti Regional House of Chiefs' capacity to mediate and implement peace measures remains significantly hampered. This situation underscores a broader issue of resource allocation to traditional institutions responsible for local conflict resolution.
