Kokma targets investors for GHS 40 million revenue growth

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) launched its inaugural Business and Investment Forum yesterday in Accra. The forum aims to establish the municipality as Ghana’s leading destination for business and investment. It also seeks to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth within the region.

This new forum brought together government officials, investors, and business leaders. Its goal is to foster partnerships and assess investment opportunities. The event also marked the launch of the Korle Klottey Business and Investment Guide 2026. Additionally, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Voluntary Local Review Report 2025 was released.

The Korle Klottey municipality plays a central role in Ghana’s economy. It hosts 60 percent of the nation's financial institutions and 75 percent of its diplomatic missions. The area is also home to the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a mega trade bloc for African countries. This strategic positioning makes it key to Ghana's economic development and regional trade initiatives.

Mr. Alfredos Nii Anyetei Gaisie, KoKMA’s Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), highlighted the municipality’s financial progress. Internally Generated Funds (IGF) increased significantly due to a new digital revenue collection platform. IGF rose from GHS 14.7 million in 2023 to GHS 25.3 million in 2024. This represents a 41 percent increase in one year. By the end of 2025, IGF further grew to GHS 40 million.

Mr. Gaisie stated that this improved revenue has boosted KoKMA's ability to fund development projects. These include market redevelopments and sanitation improvements. For example, the Odorna Market and Usher Day and Night Market are undergoing redevelopment. Almost 80 percent of the Assembly’s development initiatives are now funded through IGF. This shows a growing financial independence and reduced reliance on external funding.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, called for responsible investments. She emphasized that development must improve livelihoods and create jobs. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings urged investors to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). She also stressed the importance of strengthening local industries and improving public services.

The MP cautioned against development that displaces local residents. She advocated for growth strategies that preserve the municipality's identity. This approach will ensure local communities benefit directly from new projects. Benefits should include employment opportunities and local procurement arrangements.

The annual forum aims to sustain momentum for investment and partnerships. It will support the municipality's long-term economic transformation agenda. This ongoing effort will likely attract more capital and create new job opportunities. Decision-makers will focus on balancing growth with community welfare in the coming years.
