Asafo-Boakye Specialist Hospital provided free medical aid and specialist care to 1,600 children in Kumasi. This initiative formed part of the third annual TWISCO-ABSH Kids Fair, held on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
The event offered comprehensive healthcare services, including dental, eye, ear, nose, and throat conditions. Children also received nutritional counselling and one-on-one consultations with medical professionals. The hospital aims to promote early detection and prevention of childhood health issues, reducing financial barriers for families seeking specialist care.
This community outreach aligns with broader efforts to improve healthcare access in Ghana, particularly in regional areas. Many families face significant financial challenges in accessing specialized medical services. The fair's growing participation, from 1,200 children in its first edition to 1,600 this year, highlights this unmet need. Such initiatives complement public health programs by reaching vulnerable populations directly.
Stephen Ofosu, the Hospital Administrator, stated that the increasing numbers reflect public confidence in the initiative. He emphasized that healthcare extends beyond hospital walls, focusing on disease prevention and ensuring quality care for all children. Mr. Ofosu highlighted the importance of early detection, noting it can change a child's life trajectory.
The hospital plans to continue this initiative, with preparations already underway for the fourth edition in 2027. This program is a key part of the hospital's corporate social responsibility efforts. Mr. Ofosu described it as a moral responsibility, giving back to the community that trusts them. The 2026 edition received support from Promasidor, TWISCO, and Liezer-Legacy Productions.
Parents attending the fair welcomed the opportunity to address previously unattended health concerns due to cost. Abena Mensah, a mother from Suame, expressed relief after her child received care for an ear problem. Emmanuel Darko from Asokwa praised the community-focused healthcare approach, stating his son was treated with importance. The hospital's founder, Dr. Benjamin Asafo-Boakye, envisioned making quality healthcare accessible in the Ashanti Region. His vision, rooted in his training abroad, drives these community outreach efforts.
