The Spain Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally commended Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Ghana Water Limited Managing Director Adam Mutawakilu. The commendation highlights their significant contributions to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
Hanson Dartey, Secretary of the NDC Spain-Barcelona Chapter, stated that the officials' performance demonstrates the Mahama administration's progress. He noted this progress is gradually delivering tangible results for ordinary Ghanaians across various sectors.
This recognition comes as Ghana navigates complex economic and social challenges. The government aims to stabilize its economy and improve public services. The NDC Spain Chapter's endorsement provides a political boost, emphasizing perceived successes in key areas of governance.
Mr. Dartey specifically praised Mr. Ablakwa for his focus on the welfare of Ghanaians abroad. He cited reforms aimed at improving passport and consular services. He also mentioned the successful evacuation of over 1,000 Ghanaians from South Africa following xenophobic attacks. This action demonstrated the Ministry's responsiveness to citizens in distress.
The Chapter also acknowledged Mr. Ablakwa's efforts in strengthening Ghana-Spain relations. These efforts include initiatives in labour mobility. Passport reforms, such as reduced application fees and improved delivery services, also received commendation.
Regarding the economy, Mr. Dartey lauded Dr. Ato Forson for his role in achieving greater economic stability. He pointed to falling inflation and the relative stability of the Ghana cedi (GHS). He also highlighted the recent debt restructuring efforts and the removal of taxes like the E-Levy. These measures have contributed to a more predictable economic environment for businesses and households.
The NDC Spain Chapter welcomed Ghana’s bilateral debt restructuring agreement with Spain. They described this as a crucial development in the economic relationship between the two nations. This agreement is expected to ease Ghana's debt burden and foster stronger financial ties.
Mr. Mutawakilu, Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, was recognized for his efforts to reduce water losses. His initiatives include tackling illegal connections and improving revenue collection. He also advanced major water projects, ensuring broader access to essential services.
The Chapter cited the rehabilitation of the aging Kpong Headworks-Tema water transmission pipeline. They also noted progress on the Tamale-Damongo Water Supply Project. Improvements to water infrastructure and efforts to tackle leakages were also highlighted as key achievements under Mr. Mutawakilu’s leadership.
Mr. Dartey emphasized that the work of these three officials impacts Ghanaians in diverse ways. Mr. Ablakwa focuses on citizens abroad, Dr. Ato Forson on economic management, and Mr. Mutawakilu on improving water supply.
