GRA Extends Tax Filing Deadline to July 6 Following Floods

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the tax filing deadline to July 6, 2026. This extension covers second-quarter Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Personal Income Tax (PIT), and May 2026 returns for Value Added Tax (VAT), National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), and Communications Service Tax (CST).

This decision came after heavy rains caused widespread flooding across Accra and nearby communities. The floods significantly disrupted business operations and made it difficult for taxpayers to meet the original June 30 filing deadline. The extended period allows affected businesses and individuals to complete their tax obligations without facing penalties.

This move is part of a broader effort to balance tax collection with economic realities in Ghana. Tax administration needs to be responsive to challenges impacting businesses. The floods have already caused operational losses and delays for many enterprises. Ensuring tax compliance during such difficulties supports the overall economic stability and recovery efforts in the country.

Tax analyst Francis Timore Boi welcomed the extension as a timely and practical intervention. He stated that the GRA's decision acknowledges the real operational challenges businesses faced due to the flooding. Mr. Boi emphasised that effective tax administration should balance revenue generation with responsiveness to prevailing economic conditions.

This extension provides a crucial window for businesses to regularise their tax affairs without incurring sanctions. Taxpayers should utilise this limited opportunity before the revised deadline expires. The GRA has confirmed that standard penalties will apply after July 6 for non-compliance.

To minimise further disruptions, the GRA encourages taxpayers to use its digital platforms, such as the Taxpayer’s Portal. These online tools allow for the submission of returns without needing to visit physical tax offices. Businesses still facing difficulties due to the floods should contact their nearest Taxpayer Service Centre for assistance. This measure aims to provide temporary relief and maintain stability in domestic revenue mobilisation.
