Ghana’s customs collections have risen to about US$450 million a month after reforms that modernised import valuation and classification, including artificial intelligence support at the ports, GRA Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong said.
He said monthly customs revenue had moved from about US$350 million to as much as US$450 million, an uplift of some US$100 million a month. He said the gain came from administrative reform: no new taxes and no higher rates.
The AI-backed customs system went live around April 2026 to support valuation of goods at the ports. Sarpong linked the higher monthly take to stronger accuracy in how imports are valued and classified.
He disclosed the figures at the West African Tax Administrators Forum (WATAF) in Accra, hosted by the GRA from about 15 to 19 September 2026.
