The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly generated GHS 16,168,413.52 in budgeted revenue for 2026. This figure represents 11.6 percent of the expected GHS 139,285,306.28 for the year. The Assembly's Internally Generated Funds (IGF) amounted to GHS 2,614,454.73, achieving 36.12 percent of the projected GHS 7,190,170.68.
Abdul-Majeed Dokurgu, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), presented these financial updates during his sessional address. The address took place at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly in Effia. The meeting served as a platform for Assembly members to review and discuss the revised 2026 Annual Action Plan and the revised 2026 Composite Budget.
These financial outcomes are critical for the municipality's broader development agenda. Ghana's economic strategy increasingly relies on local assemblies to drive growth and improve public services. The performance of IGFs, in particular, indicates the municipality's capacity to fund its own development initiatives. This local revenue generation is vital for reducing dependence on central government allocations and fostering self-sufficiency.
Mr. Dokurgu reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to sustainable growth and development projects. He stated that the Assembly remains resolute in its determination to eliminate poverty and deprivation across the municipality. This commitment is pursued through sustainable policies and programmes designed to improve residents' lives and livelihoods.
Despite the financial challenges, the Assembly reported significant progress in several key areas. These include improving access to quality healthcare and enhancing the road network. The Assembly has also supported an increasing number of farmers with agricultural inputs. These initiatives form a strong foundation for the growth and transformation of the agricultural sector.
The MCE highlighted efforts in promoting urban agriculture for food security and job creation. Innovative technologies are being employed to achieve these goals within the municipality. Approximately 192 farmers, comprising 131 males and 61 females, received education on improved agricultural practices. This training covered modern farming techniques, pest and disease management, and climate-smart agricultural practices. Such efforts aim to increase productivity and ensure sustainable agricultural development.
On security, Mr. Dokurgu noted that the municipality remained generally peaceful. Security agencies have responded promptly and effectively to all security-related incidents, helping to maintain law and order. The Assembly assured continued collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a safe, secure, and enabling environment for socio-economic development.
Regarding social welfare, 46 Persons with Disabilities (24 males and 22 females) received grants and items worth GHS 244,600.00. The Assembly has also undertaken activities to create employment opportunities for youth and the aged. These efforts aim to boost economic activities and sustain existing businesses, improving the overall conditions for residents. Regular clean-up exercises are also organized to improve cleanliness and prevent sanitation-related diseases.
