MTN Ghana dominated trading on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on Monday, August 10, 2026. The telecommunications giant accounted for nearly three-fifths of the total market value. Investors exchanged 2.84 million shares worth GHS 7.31 million across the main market, Ghana Alternative Market, and exchange-traded funds.
Scancom Plc, trading as MTN Ghana, recorded 611,499 shares. These shares were valued at GHS 4.28 million. This figure represented approximately 58.58% of the entire session’s turnover by value. The stock closed unchanged at GHS 7.00, indicating that heavy trading activity did not alter its volume-weighted average price.
This concentration of trading in a few large companies is a recurring theme on the GSE. It reflects the market's structure, where a limited number of highly capitalised firms attract the most investor interest. This trend often means that overall market performance is heavily influenced by the movements of these dominant stocks. The Ghanaian economy relies on robust capital markets for investment and growth, making the performance of these key players crucial.
Kasapreko Plc was the second-largest contributor to turnover, with 500,101 shares changing hands. These shares were worth GHS 999,388.73. The recently listed brewer closed unchanged at GHS 2.00 and accounted for about 13.68% of total value traded. GCB Bank followed with GHS 518,641.80 in turnover from 12,033 shares, equivalent to about 7.10% of the market’s value. Together, MTN Ghana, Kasapreko, and GCB accounted for close to four-fifths of total turnover, illustrating the extent to which trading remained concentrated in a relatively small number of counters.
Price movements were more pronounced among some of the smaller stocks. Dannex Ayrton Starwin Plc, or DASPHARMA, was the strongest gainer on the session. It advanced 9.62% from GHS 0.52 to GHS 0.57 after 50,000 shares worth GHS 28,500 changed hands. Hords Plc followed with a 9.09% increase from GHS 0.55 to GHS 0.60. SIC Insurance gained 6.26% to close at GHS 5.09. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated also strengthened, rising 3.39% from GHS 1.77 to GHS 1.83 on 65,913 shares valued at GHS 120,839.62.
The strongest downward movement came from Intravenous Infusions Plc, which dropped 9.43% from GHS 0.53 to GHS 0.48. The stock was relatively active by volume, with 299,122 shares worth GHS 143,578.56 traded. Enterprise Group Plc was the other decliner, easing 0.10% from GHS 10.03 to GHS 10.02. Its 16,769 shares generated GHS 168,025.38 in turnover.
The session was also notable for the substantial volume traded in Digicut Production & Advertising Plc on the Ghana Alternative Market. Digicut recorded 1.07 million shares, making it the most heavily traded security by number of shares. This accounted for about 37.66% of total market volume. However, its low share price meant those transactions generated only GHS 96,320 in value. This distinction between volume and value is important when interpreting market activity. Digicut led by number of shares, but MTN Ghana remained overwhelmingly dominant in monetary terms because its GHS 7.00 share price converted fewer shares into significantly greater turnover.
MTN Ghana itself represented about 21.52% of total shares traded. Kasapreko contributed 17.60% and Intravenous Infusions accounted for 10.53%. The combination of these counters meant a substantial portion of the day’s activity was concentrated within four securities. This highlights the liquidity provided by these major players. Investors will continue to monitor the balance between high-value, stable stocks and smaller, more volatile options.
