GSE Trades GHS 5.14 Million as MTN Ghana Dominates Activity

    The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) concluded trading on August 31 with a total value of GHS 5.14 million. This activity involved 1.85 million shares changing hands across the market. MTN Ghana was the primary driver of this trading, accounting for a significant portion of the total value.

    MTN Ghana alone contributed GHS 1.76 million to the market's turnover. This represents 34.32% of the entire market's traded value for the day. The telecommunications stock also saw its price increase by GHS 0.06, closing at GHS 6.97. This gain reflects a 0.87% rise from its previous closing price of GHS 6.91.

    This concentration of trading activity in a few stocks is a recurring theme on the GSE. MTN Ghana's consistent performance and high liquidity often make it a focal point for investors. Such dominance can influence overall market sentiment and indices. The broader Ghanaian economy relies on robust capital markets for investment and growth. The GSE's performance provides insights into investor confidence and corporate health.

    The GSE's Official List for Trading Session 7286 recorded a total volume of 1,848,208 shares. The aggregate market value reached GHS 5,136,436.65 on August 31, 2026. Ordinary shares were particularly active, with 1,749,578 shares traded. These ordinary shares were valued at GHS 5,040,955.46, underscoring their importance in daily trading.

    Beyond MTN Ghana, other companies also saw notable activity. Kasapreko PLC, a drinks manufacturer, traded 424,149 shares. These shares were valued at GHS 810,605.80, making it the second-largest traded stock by value. However, Kasapreko's share price declined by GHS 0.04, closing at GHS 1.94. This represented a 2.02% drop from its prior price of GHS 1.98.

    CAL Bank recorded the highest volume of ordinary shares traded. A total of 826,527 CAL shares changed hands, valued at GHS 587,833.82. This volume accounted for nearly half of all ordinary-share trading. CAL Bank's stock experienced a sharp fall, dropping from GHS 0.75 to GHS 0.70. This 6.67% decline made it one of the session's significant price losers.

    The banking sector presented a mixed picture. Ecobank Ghana traded 14,027 shares worth GHS 547,333.54, closing unchanged at GHS 39.02. GCB Bank, however, saw an increase, adding GHS 0.39 to close at GHS 39.55. This was a 1.00% gain, with 7,168 shares traded for GHS 283,709.80. Republic Bank Ghana also closed flat at GHS 4.20.

    Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) also posted gains, rising GHS 0.03 to GHS 1.86. This 1.64% increase occurred on a volume of 59,297 shares, valued at GHS 110,662.39. SIC Insurance was among the strongest gainers on the main market. The insurer climbed from GHS 5.31 to GHS 5.47, adding GHS 0.16 or 3.01%. A total of 33,898 SIC shares traded for GHS 185,582.14.

    The pharmaceutical sector experienced one of the steepest losses. Dannex Ayrton Starwin PLC fell from GHS 1.98 to GHS 1.82, losing GHS 0.16. This represented an 8.08% decline, with 42,216 shares traded for GHS 76,790.70. This decline, alongside losses in CAL Bank and Kasapreko, offset gains from MTN Ghana, GCB, SIC, and ETI.

    A significant number of listed equities ended the session unchanged. These included Benso Oil Palm Plantation at GHS 76.67 and Fan Milk at GHS 13.23. Guinness Ghana Breweries remained at GHS 10.70, and GOIL at GHS 7.45. TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana closed at GHS 41.50, and Unilever Ghana at GHS 40.00. ZEN Petroleum Holdings also closed unchanged at GHS 10.89.

    Activity on the Ghana Alternative Market (GAX) was smaller but showed strong percentage movements. Intravenous Infusions PLC gained GHS 0.01 to GHS 0.76, a 1.33% increase. Digicut Production & Advertising PLC advanced from GHS 0.26 to GHS 0.28, gaining 7.69%. This session underscores the concentrated nature of trading on the GSE, with a few key stocks driving overall market value.
