This increase signifies the tourism sector’s ability to maintain its upward trajectory amidst changing global and domestic economic conditions. The growth in international arrivals impacts the broader economy by generating foreign exchange and supporting local businesses. Domestic tourism also played a crucial role, with more than 1.79 million visits recorded at 55 tourist sites across Ghana. This reflects growing participation in local travel and tourism activities.
Ghana’s consistent growth in tourism aligns with the nation’s broader economic diversification efforts beyond traditional exports. The tourism sector accounts for a significant portion of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Continued investment in tourism infrastructure and promotion helps to create jobs and stimulate local economies. The report shows that the number of licensed tourism enterprises grew from 6,702 in 2024 to 7,109 in 2025, indicating increased entrepreneurial activity.
The GTA stated that these findings reflect the sector’s dedication to sustainability, innovation, and adaptability. These factors are considered essential drivers for long-term growth and competitiveness. Business travel remained the leading purpose of visit, accounting for 31% of all international arrivals. Cruise tourism also saw continued expansion, with 18 cruise ship calls and 5,488 passengers arriving through Tema and Takoradi ports.
The implications of this growth are significant for Ghana’s economic outlook. High visitor satisfaction levels reinforce Ghana's reputation as a welcoming destination, which could attract further investment. Policy makers will likely use this data to refine strategies for sustainable tourism development. This includes investments in ecotourism, community-based tourism, and heritage preservation. Market participants will monitor continued growth in tourist arrivals for opportunities in hospitality and related services.
