Ghana Seeks Global Investment for Economic Transformation

Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a strategic investment destination and a gateway to Africa. The nation urges global investors and development partners to leverage the continent's expanding opportunities. This message was delivered by Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi (MP), at the Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026 in Washington, D.C.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Ahi emphasized Ghana's strong belief in "Africa's moment." He stated Ghana is ready to collaborate with investors who share confidence in the continent's future. The summit gathered government officials, investors, development finance institutions, and business leaders to explore investment pathways and sustainable economic development across Africa.

Ghana's economic transformation agenda is built on reforms designed to strengthen macroeconomic stability. These reforms also aim to expand productive capacity, attract investment, and foster inclusive growth. The government's focus extends beyond immediate economic recovery to a broader transformation. This transformation is driven by industrialization, value addition, productivity enhancement, and job creation across the country.

Key initiatives highlighted at the summit included the government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme. Another significant initiative is the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project. Both programs are designed to increase production, unlock investment opportunities, and spread economic activity nationwide. President Mahama stressed Ghana’s readiness to welcome investment across strategic sectors. These sectors include energy, technology, agriculture, mining, tourism, maritime development, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

The Feed Ghana Programme, as maintained by the President, will make agriculture a major pillar of economic transformation. This program aims to boost food production, reduce reliance on imports, and create jobs. It will also provide industries with dependable sources of raw materials. Ghana’s industrialization strategy was also showcased, emphasizing the development of industrial parks and special economic zones. Examples include the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone, Dawa Industrial Zone, and Tema Integrated Industrial Park. These zones are expected to support manufacturing growth and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in the global market.

Ghana’s strategic advantage as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat was further underscored. The country is described as a gateway for investors seeking access to a market of more than 1.3 billion people. This market boasts a combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) exceeding US$3.5 trillion. The AfCFTA represents one of the world’s largest economic opportunities. It connects African markets, expands trade, and creates new avenues for enterprise growth across the continent.

Hon. Ahi concluded his address by stating, “Let history record that we did not only gather to speak about Africa’s future. We gathered to invest in it, and to build it.” This statement reflects Ghana's proactive stance in attracting tangible investment. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, also graced the summit. He called on investors to recognize Africa’s vast potential. He also urged African leaders to strengthen governance systems and create an enabling environment for sustainable investment. Good governance, he noted, is a critical economic asset that builds confidence and accelerates development.

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith, welcomed participants. He called for investment partnerships that create opportunities for young Africans. These partnerships should empower youth and contribute meaningfully to the continent’s long-term growth and prosperity. The clear message from Ghana to global investors at ABIS 2026 was: “Invest in Ghana. Invest in Africa.” The nation is ready to lead the way in building Africa's future.
