Ghana has launched a comprehensive global campaign to attract international capital across 12 priority sectors of its economy. This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) and Oxford Business Group (OBG).
The collaboration will develop and distribute a series of Global Platform videos and a documentary. These materials will profile Ghana’s investment landscape, aiming to provide international investors with a clearer understanding of the nation’s economic outlook and critical growth sectors. President John Dramani Mahama will feature prominently in these videos, alongside senior public and private-sector leaders.
This strategic move aligns with Ghana's broader economic agenda to shift investment focus towards production, local businesses, and export growth. The country has been actively seeking to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on raw material exports. Initiatives like this campaign are crucial for attracting the foreign direct investment needed to achieve these long-term development goals. Ghana's economic stability and growth potential, despite global headwinds, make it an attractive destination for capital seeking emerging market opportunities.
Simon Madjie, the Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, emphasized the importance of this partnership. He stated, “Ghana has opportunities across a wide range of sectors, and these must be communicated clearly to investors and business leaders internationally.” Mr. Madjie added that the video series would highlight Ghana’s investment priorities, the work of its institutions, and sectors supporting future growth.
The campaign will focus on key sectors including agriculture, financial services, and information and communications technology (ICT). Other targeted areas are energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, tourism, mining, transport, education, utilities, and entrepreneurship. These sectors represent critical pillars for Ghana's sustainable economic development and job creation. The initiative seeks to match global capital with specific, high-potential projects within these areas.
Ramona Tarta, OBG’s Regional Director for West Africa, noted that the initiative builds on OBG’s extensive research presence in Ghana. OBG has covered Ghana’s economy for over a decade, providing in-depth analysis. She explained that the Global Platform videos would combine insights from public and private-sector leaders. This approach helps international audiences understand the developments and opportunities shaping Ghana’s investment environment.
The content will be distributed through OBG’s research platform and major international financial and media networks. These include Bloomberg, Refinitiv, Dow Jones Factiva, S&P Capital IQ, and LexisNexis. This broad distribution ensures maximum reach to global business decision-makers and institutional investors. The documentary will offer a consolidated overview of themes explored in the video series, supporting GIPA’s engagement efforts.
This campaign is expected to strengthen Ghana’s visibility among international investors. It will also position its priority sectors and economic opportunities on a wider global platform. Increased foreign investment can lead to technology transfer, job creation, and enhanced productivity across these vital sectors. This strategic outreach is a proactive step to secure Ghana's economic future.
The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority, formerly known as the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), was reconstituted under the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority Act, 2026 (Act 1173). This legal framework provides the mandate for GIPA to facilitate and promote investments into the country. The collaboration with OBG, a global research and advisory company with a presence in over 30 countries, leverages significant expertise in economic analysis and investor outreach.
Ghana’s government has consistently expressed its commitment to creating a favorable business environment. This includes policy reforms and infrastructure development to support investor confidence. The success of this campaign will depend on effective communication and the continued implementation of investor-friendly policies. Global capital is highly mobile, and Ghana aims to capture a significant share through this targeted approach.
