Tima Kumkum Reveals 14 Years of Sole Childcare Financial Burden
Media personality Tima Kumkum has disclosed her 14-year struggle as the sole financial provider for her children, highlighting the significant economic strain on single parents in Ghana.

Kumkum explained that she has covered all expenses for her children, including school fees, housing, and clothing, since her divorce. This extensive financial commitment has directly impacted her personal financial progress, including her ability to complete building her own home. Her candid account sheds light on the substantial economic pressures faced by single parents, particularly mothers, in Ghana.
This situation reflects a broader trend in Ghana where women often shoulder the primary economic responsibility for their families, even after separation or divorce. During the interview, Kumkum stated, "For 14 years, I’ve been the one paying their school fees, taking care of them, shelter, clothes and everything." She added that her ex-husband has not been involved in their children's upbringing, leaving her to manage all financial obligations alone. This lack of co-parenting support exacerbates the economic challenges she has faced.

Kumkum's first child has completed Junior High School (JHS) and is preparing for Senior High School (SHS), while her second child is in JHS 2 and will also transition to SHS in two years. To address these issues, Tima Kumkum is organizing the "Be Inspired by Tima Women’s Conference 2026," themed "Turning Pain into Purpose." This event aims to empower young women facing similar emotional, mental, and physical challenges. The conference will feature speakers with lived experiences, including suicide prevention advocate Gloria Boatemaa Andoh and entrepreneur Maame Joe.
The conference, scheduled for Saturday, 12 September 2026, at Villa Vista, East Legon, will also include burns survivor and globally recognised advocate Judith Cato Addison. Other notable personalities involved are Pastor Selina of Faithway International Chapel, Mrs. Mary Amoah Kuffour, Founder of Klicks Foundation, and Mrs. Naa Joe Bechem, CEO of RJ’s Events & More. This initiative seeks to provide practical lessons and support for women turning adversity into purpose.
