The Project Management Institute (PMI) and Cannes Lions have jointly launched the LIONS Educators Forum, a new global initiative. This forum connects academic institutions with creative industries to better prepare students for the future of work.
This partnership addresses a growing need to align what students learn in schools with the skills required by today's fast-changing, AI-powered economy. It aims to equip students with critical abilities like creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability for all professions.
Ghana's economy, like the global one, faces a rapidly evolving job market driven by technological advancements, especially artificial intelligence. Equipping the next generation with relevant skills is vital for sustained economic growth and reducing youth unemployment. This initiative complements efforts to enhance technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Ghana, aligning educational output with industry demand.
Steve Latham, Global Head of Strategic Learning Initiatives at Cannes Lions, highlighted the importance of this connection. He stated, "Creativity is now one of the most important skills in the global economy, yet the connection between education and industry has never been more critical." The LIONS Educators Forum was designed to close this gap by fostering collaboration and shared insights.
The forum's work will benefit Ghana by potentially influencing local educational institutions to adopt more industry-relevant curricula. This could lead to a more skilled workforce capable of contributing to Ghana's creative and project-based sectors. It will also help students navigate a job market increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and complex project demands.
Menaka Gopinath, Chief Marketing Officer at PMI, emphasized the focus on practical application. She said, "The future of work will reward people who can do more than generate ideas." She added that the initiative aims to provide students and educators with skills to turn creative ambition into real-world impact. PMI, as a founding partner, will help shape the agenda by focusing on skills needed for an AI-enabled workplace, such as project management.
The LIONS Educators Forum will involve three main components. It will host two virtual global roundtables annually, bringing educators and industry leaders together to discuss challenges. An in-person forum will also occur during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity from June 22 to 26, 2026, offering direct industry access. Finally, an ongoing global network will facilitate continuous connection and resource sharing among professionals and educators.
This initiative could strengthen Ghana's capacity to develop talent in creative and project management fields. It provides a framework for local educators to access global best practices and integrate them into their teaching methods. This proactive approach ensures Ghana's future workforce is prepared for opportunities in an increasingly interconnected and AI-driven global economy.
