Fifty-five young people from underserved communities across the Greater Accra Region have completed an intensive mentorship programme. This initiative, organised by the Radiza Foundation, aims to prepare them for leadership, career success, and active community service. The beneficiaries came from areas including Nima, Sabon Zongo, Shukura, Fadama, Chorkor, James Town, La Paz, and Kasoa.

The programme, known as the second cohort of the Radiza Mentorship Initiative, lasted three days. It combined leadership training, career guidance, financial literacy, educational tours, and one-on-one mentorship. This comprehensive approach exposed participants to opportunities many had not experienced before, broadening their perspectives and potential career paths.

This effort aligns with broader national goals to enhance human capital and reduce socio-economic disparities. Ghana's economic development relies on a skilled and engaged youth population, particularly from areas often overlooked. Initiatives like this contribute to a more inclusive growth model, ensuring that talent from all backgrounds can contribute to the nation's progress and economic stability.

Rabiatu Yakubu, Founder and Executive Director of the Radiza Foundation, stated the programme's purpose. She said, "Our goal is to connect young people with the right mentors, opportunities and experiences that will help them realise their potential and become leaders who will positively transform their communities." This statement highlights the foundation's commitment to long-term community impact.

The programme's conclusion marks a significant step for these young individuals. The ongoing mentorship through the Radiza Mentorship Initiative Alumni Network will provide continued support, networking, and professional development. This sustained engagement is crucial for translating initial training into lasting career and leadership achievements, potentially influencing future economic contributions from these communities.

Participants received financial literacy training from the Youth Banking team of Stanbic Bank Ghana. They learned about budgeting, responsible money management, and building healthy financial habits. This training is vital for personal economic stability and contributes to a more financially literate populace, which can positively impact the national economy.

Beyond classroom sessions, mentees visited key public and private institutions. These included the Parliament of Ghana, an artificial intelligence and robotics centre in Accra, and a leading media house. These visits provided first-hand exposure to governance, technology, and professional careers, allowing participants to interact with professionals and explore various career paths.

The programme opened with sessions on self-discovery, goal setting, and mentorship. These foundational elements encouraged participants to reflect on their aspirations and develop practical leadership skills. Such skills are essential for navigating the complexities of the modern job market and for effective community engagement.

A defining feature of the initiative was its structured mentorship component. Each participant was paired with a mentor based on their academic interests and career aspirations. Mentors came from diverse fields including medicine, law, communications, accounting, entrepreneurship, fashion, hospitality, and the military, offering tailored guidance.

Ms. Yakubu encouraged the young people at the closing ceremony to remain focused on their ambitions. She stressed that determination and resilience can overcome difficult beginnings. This message reinforces the importance of perseverance in achieving personal and professional goals, especially for those from challenging backgrounds.

The initiative received support from several partners. These included ID Ghana, Stanbic Bank, Twellium Industrial Company, Rayan Medical Center, InnovTech STEM Center, and STN Media Consult. Such collaborations between non-profits and corporate entities are crucial for scaling impact and providing comprehensive development opportunities.
