The state-of-the-art complex features a standard AstroTurf pitch designed for local league matches and multi-school tournaments. It also includes a Tartan athletics track, suitable for regional track-and-field events. The facility can accommodate 500 spectators in its main stand, with a dedicated VIP section and a press box. Modern amenities such as floodlights for evening fixtures, standard changing rooms, contemporary washrooms, paved walkways, and dedicated parking enhance its functionality and appeal.
This project resulted from a multi-stakeholder partnership. Key collaborators included the Minerals Commission, Newmont Ahafo South Mine, the Asutifi North District Assembly, and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. Traditional leaders from Kenyasi No. 1, Kenyasi No. 2, and Ntotroso also played a vital role in its realization. This collaborative approach ensures broad community buy-in and sustainability.
Newmont's broader development model focuses on equipping residents with self-sustaining skills. The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), the company's Corporate Social Responsibility arm, drives these initiatives. NADeF has accrued over GHS 170 million to date, funding more than 100 community projects and thousands of scholarships. Specialized vocational programs also offer hands-on technical instruction, preparing young adults for careers outside mining. For instance, Newmont partners with firms like the Underground Mining Alliance (UMA) for local recruitment, ensuring high percentages of local hires in projects such as the Subika Underground Project.
Infrastructure development forms another critical pillar of Newmont's long-term commitment. A $34 million infrastructure program, running from 2025 to 2028, is actively funding several projects. These include rehabilitating internal roads in Ntotroso, Wamahinso, and Gyedu. The program also covers constructing the Ntotroso–Kenyasi road and collaborating with state authorities to rehabilitate the 40-plus-kilometer Sunyani–Acherensua stretch. All physical development projects mandate the engagement of local contractors, generating immediate community employment. The Ahafo Social Responsibility Forum (ASRF), a 53-member consultative body, guides all local development agreements and priority projects.
