Residents of Yaala No. 2 in the Wa East Constituency, Upper West Region, will soon gain better access to healthcare. Member of Parliament Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw has initiated the construction of an ultra-modern clinic in their community.
This new facility directly addresses a critical and long-standing challenge: the absence of a well-equipped health centre. For years, hundreds of residents had to travel long distances for medical treatment. This often led to delayed care and placed significant financial strain on families seeking essential services.
The current lack of infrastructure has been a persistent issue across many rural areas in Ghana. Despite continuous efforts to decentralise healthcare, access remains uneven, particularly in remote communities. This project aligns with the broader national agenda to enhance healthcare delivery, reduce maternal and child mortality, and improve emergency response capabilities in underserved regions.
Dr. Jasaw stated that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. He assured residents that the clinic is part of his broader commitment to improving living conditions across the constituency. He highlighted past interventions, including medical equipment donations and support for existing health facilities.
The new clinic will include a consulting room, an outpatient department (OPD), and a delivery room. It will also feature two units of nurses' accommodation and a two-unit washroom facility. These additions aim to create an efficient working environment and attract skilled health professionals to Yaala No. 2. Health professionals in the area have often faced difficulties due to inadequate infrastructure, discouraging some from accepting postings.
This initiative is expected to significantly reduce preventable deaths and enhance maternal and child healthcare. It will also improve emergency response times within the community. The presence of accommodation for nurses is a key factor in attracting and retaining qualified personnel, which is crucial for delivering consistent, high-quality medical services. The project demonstrates a focused effort to address specific development gaps in the constituency.
