Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, the Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency, has officially launched the construction of two vital bridges. These new bridges will replace existing structures at Wegbe-Akplamafu and Segbedeme, significantly improving local transportation.
These construction projects aim to enhance mobility and stimulate economic activity within the Hohoe Constituency. The Segbedeme bridge specifically connects major farming communities directly to Hohoe town. The Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge links one traditional area to three others and also connects the Hohoe and Kpando Constituencies. The severe deterioration of these original bridges prompted this urgent action.
This infrastructure development aligns with Ghana's ongoing efforts to improve its road network and support economic growth, especially in rural areas. Data from the Bank of Ghana indicates strong consumer spending in January 2026, even as construction activities saw a decline. Improving critical infrastructure like bridges is essential for boosting regional economies and facilitating trade. The Ghana Road Fund, which finances this project, is a key mechanism for these national development goals.
Mr. Tsekpo stated that casualties on the old bridges prompted him to promise these constructions during his 2024 election campaign. He expressed joy that approval was granted for the bridges. The Ghana Road Fund will provide funding for the project.
Construction work will begin on the 36.6-meter Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge, which has a maximum two-month completion period. After that, work will start on the Segbedeme bridge. These improvements are expected to open up new opportunities for farmers to transport their produce more efficiently. This will reduce travel times and costs, directly benefiting local livelihoods. Access to markets will increase, supporting agricultural output and regional trade.
Mr. Nicholas Nii Nortey Owuo, Assistant Project Manager at the Ghana Highway Authority, confirmed the construction timeline. He also stated that community members will be employed during the project. This will provide temporary jobs and inject money into the local economy. Togbe Keh XII, Divisional Chief of Gbi Wegbe, praised the project, emphasizing its importance to the community. He noted that residents are ready to offer local labor to ensure the project's success. Mr. Seth Dzandzo, Unit Committee Member for Ahado Electoral Area, also thanked the government and MP for the Segbedeme bridge, highlighting its role in supporting movement of people and goods, and enhancing development beyond the bridge.
