Ghana Exim Bank has officially commissioned a new astro turf facility at Hogbe Park in Anloga, Volta Region. This development forms part of the bank's 10th-anniversary activities and its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The newly constructed Awoamefia Togbui Sri III Astro Turf Park replaces the community's decades-old Hogbe Park. The modern facility aims to promote youth empowerment and broader community development. It provides a suitable venue for year-round sporting activities, training programs, and inter-community competitions.
This project aligns with Ghana's broader economic strategy to invest in social infrastructure that can yield economic benefits. Such facilities can attract visitors, generate revenue through events, and create employment opportunities. The investment in Anloga reflects a trend of financial institutions contributing to local development beyond their core banking functions.
Mr. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Deputy Chief Executive of Ghana Exim Bank, stated the facility is not merely ceremonial. He emphasized it represents a deliberate investment in a community that previously lacked a modern sports venue. The bank carefully assessed the proposal for the astro turf project, finding it credible and necessary for the community's evolving sporting standards.
The facility is expected to generate revenue and create employment for ground staff, administrators, security personnel, and vendors. It will also attract visiting teams and officials, whose spending will benefit the local economy. This aligns with Ghana Exim Bank's mandate to foster productive economic activity, extending beyond financing physical structures.
Mr. Mensah highlighted that the facility would support year-round sporting activities regardless of weather conditions. It will also reduce maintenance costs associated with natural grass pitches. The bank has established a management committee to oversee the facility's day-to-day operations, ensuring its sustainability.
Togbui Sri III, the Overlord of Anlo State, expressed gratitude for the project. He described the facility as a transformative development for the community. The traditional leadership pledged to ensure the proper maintenance of the park.
Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, District Chief Executive for Anloga, also lauded the project. She described it as a major investment in youth development, sports, and community growth. The facility is expected to provide a platform for young people to develop their talents and pursue their aspirations.
Ghana Exim Bank's commitment extends beyond the commissioning, with plans to monitor the facility's use. The bank expects the management committee to maintain proper records and ensure responsible access. This oversight aims to preserve the facility for future generations in Anloga.
