Emirates airline will introduce four additional weekly flights between Dubai and Accra starting July 12, 2024. This expansion brings the total number of Emirates services to Ghana to 11 flights per week. The airline is responding to strong and consistent demand for air travel to and from Accra.
This increase in flights addresses Ghana's growing need for international travel options and global connections. The new services will supplement Emirates' existing daily flights, which already experience high passenger occupancy throughout the year. These additional flights will help meet the country's rising travel requirements.
This move highlights Dubai's increasing importance as a global travel hub and Ghana's strategic position in West Africa. Enhanced flight connectivity can significantly boost Ghana's tourism sector. It also supports trade between Ghana and other major economies served by Emirates' extensive network. The Standard Bank Research expects Ghana's economy to grow by 5.9% to 6.1% in 2026.
Salem Almana, Emirates' Country Manager for Ghana, stated, “The introduction of this additional service demonstrates our continued confidence in the Ghanaian market and our commitment to supporting the country's growing travel needs.” He added that this expansion will strengthen business, tourism, and trade links. It also connects Ghana with key markets across Emirates' global network.
The additional flights, EK789 and EK790, will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Flight EK789 will depart Dubai at 03:30 hours and arrive in Accra at 07:40 GMT. The return flight, EK790, will leave Accra at 10:25 GMT and land in Dubai at 22:40 hours. These services are timed to offer seamless connections for travellers from Accra to major cities such as Beijing, New York JFK, and Mumbai. They also provide convenient access to Accra from places like Delhi, Boston, and various points across Germany and the UK. With 11 weekly flights, Emirates will use its wide-body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for these routes. Each aircraft offers 8 private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class, and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class.
This enhanced air connection is expected to significantly impact Ghana's aviation sector by increasing passenger and cargo traffic. It will also facilitate greater foreign investment by making travel easier for business delegates. The increased capacity and connectivity will also benefit Ghanaian businesses seeking to export goods or expand their international reach. Market analysts will closely watch how this expansion affects local airport operations and competition among airlines. This development reinforces Ghana's role as a key player in West Africa's economic landscape.
