Emirates Airlines will introduce four additional weekly flights between Dubai and Accra from July 12, 2026. This expansion brings the airline's total operations in Ghana to 11 weekly flights, a significant increase in air travel capacity.
The enhanced service responds to sustained demand for air travel to and from Accra. It demonstrates Emirates' long-term commitment to the Ghanaian market, supporting the country's growing need for global connectivity. The additional flights will provide more convenient travel options for passengers and businesses.
This move aligns with Ghana's broader efforts to improve its infrastructure and connectivity, fostering economic growth. Increased flight frequencies can boost tourism and facilitate business travel, critical components of Ghana's economic development strategy. Enhanced air links also support the government's ambitions to position Ghana as a West African hub for trade and investment.
Salem Almana, Emirates' Country Manager for Ghana, stated, “For more than two decades, Emirates has proudly connected Ghana to the world.” He added that this expansion “demonstrates our continued confidence in the Ghanaian market and our commitment to supporting the country's growing travel needs.” This sentiment highlights the strategic importance of Ghana as an African market for international carriers.
The implications of this expansion are substantial for Ghana's economy and its aviation sector. The additional flights will strengthen business, tourism, and trade links between Ghana and key global markets. This enhanced connectivity will benefit Ghanaian businesses by providing faster access to international markets for exports. It will also make Ghana more accessible for international investors and tourists, potentially increasing foreign exchange earnings.
Emirates' new direct services, flight numbers EK789 and EK790, will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The EK789 flight will depart Dubai at 03:30 hrs and arrive in Accra at 07:40 hrs. The return flight, EK790, will depart Accra at 10:25 hrs and arrive in Dubai at 22:40 hrs. These times are local at each location.
The flights will operate with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. This aircraft offers eight private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class, and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class. Passengers will benefit from an extensive inflight entertainment system, including Ghanaian content.
Beyond passenger traffic, these additional flights will boost cargo operations through Emirates SkyCargo. The airline currently transports significant volumes of fresh-cut fruit from Ghana to European destinations such as Prague and Zurich. It also carries electronics, textiles, and pharmaceutical products. The increased cargo capacity, also known as bellyhold cargo, will further support trade and stimulate economic activity by providing Ghanaian businesses with more reliable access to global supply chains. This will be an important factor for Ghana's non-traditional exports.
