Oswal Investments Limited has confirmed the Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road project will be completed by December 2026. This commitment ensures a vital infrastructure upgrade for the Greater Accra Region.
The 20.8-kilometre single-carriageway asphaltic concrete road is currently 62% physically complete. The project also includes new walkways and four kilometres of dual carriageway at the Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya junctions. These additions aim to significantly improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in the area.
This road project is part of Ghana's broader infrastructure development agenda, which seeks to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activity. Improved road networks reduce travel times and transport costs, benefiting businesses and commuters. The government has disbursed GHS 23.1 billion to clear road contractors’ arrears, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing projects. Such investments are crucial for sustaining economic growth and attracting further private sector engagement.
Humphrey Awuletey-Williams, Group Chairman of Oswal Investments Limited, expressed confidence in meeting the deadline. He stated, “We will be done by December this year. We can achieve it easily.” Mr. Awuletey-Williams made this assurance during an inspection tour by the Minister for Roads and Highways on Wednesday, August 19.
The timely completion of this project will alleviate significant traffic congestion along the route, boosting local commerce and property values. Businesses in Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya will benefit from easier access and reduced logistics costs. This development also sets a positive precedent for other ongoing infrastructure projects across the country. Decision-makers will monitor the project’s final stages closely, as successful delivery reinforces public trust in government-led initiatives.
The improved road infrastructure supports the movement of goods and services, which is vital for regional economic integration. Better roads can also attract new investments to the area, creating jobs and fostering community development. The government’s focus on infrastructure, including the 'Big Push' road projects, underscores its strategy for long-term economic stability. This project’s completion will contribute directly to that national objective.
Reliable infrastructure is a cornerstone of economic resilience, especially for a developing nation like Ghana. The Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road will serve thousands of daily commuters and freight vehicles. Its completion will reduce vehicle operating costs and improve road safety. This project represents a tangible step towards modernizing Ghana’s transport network and supporting its growing population.
