Grace Agyemang Asamoah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, has intensified efforts to secure international partnerships. These partnerships aim to improve access to potable water in the district. This follows her participation in the Italy-Ghana Water Technology Workshop held in Accra.
The workshop, organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in collaboration with BolognaFiere and Accadueo (H2O), brought together leading Italian water technology companies. It also included government officials and key stakeholders in Ghana’s water sector. The event focused on promoting business partnerships, technology transfer, and commercial cooperation. It highlighted innovative solutions in water treatment, wastewater management, and sustainable water infrastructure.
This initiative aligns with Ghana's broader development agenda, which prioritizes access to clean water and sanitation. Many Ghanaian districts, particularly those experiencing rapid population growth, face significant challenges in providing adequate water services. The government has been actively seeking foreign direct investment and technological expertise to bridge these infrastructure gaps. This specific effort by the Atwima Kwanwoma DCE reflects a localized approach to a national issue.
Mrs. Agyemang Asamoah held discussions with Ambassador Ranalli and representatives of several Italian firms. These talks explored opportunities for partnership in expanding potable water supply within the Atwima Kwanwoma District. She highlighted the district’s growing demand for safe and reliable drinking water. The DCE appealed for technical and investment support to improve water infrastructure and enhance residents' quality of life.
Mr. Luigi Puca, the Director of the Italian Trade Agency, stated that this initiative forms part of Italy’s global strategy. It aims to promote its technologies and expertise while fostering stronger economic cooperation with partner countries. Ms. Laura Ranali, the Ambassador of Italy to Ghana, reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. This commitment includes sustainable investments and technological cooperation, particularly in the water sector.
The engagements are expected to pave the way for strategic partnerships. These partnerships could deliver sustainable water solutions to communities across the district. This aligns with the Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly’s development agenda. Future collaborations will likely focus on advanced engineering solutions and obtaining feedback from Ghanaian institutions to align with the country’s development priorities. This could lead to significant improvements in public health and economic productivity for the district.
