Henos Energy has officially commissioned Ghana’s first Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlet (CDO) at East Legon Hills in Accra. This new facility introduces an innovative approach to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution, aiming to improve convenience, promote safety, and support the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
The drive-thru model allows motorists to easily exchange empty LPG cylinders for filled ones, significantly reducing waiting times. This makes LPG more accessible, especially for customers needing gas outside standard business hours. The outlet operates under the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), a national policy designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of LPG distribution across Ghana.
This development fits into Ghana’s broader economic strategy to foster a 24-hour economy, which seeks to boost productivity and economic activity around the clock. The initiative also supports the National Petroleum Authority’s (NPA) efforts to modernize the downstream petroleum sector. Improved LPG access can reduce reliance on traditional fuels, contributing to cleaner energy use and environmental benefits.
Madam Akua Ntiwaa Kwakye, Director of GAS at the NPA, praised Henos Energy for its pioneering role in implementing the CRM. She stated that the project demonstrates how innovation in the downstream petroleum sector can support the 24-hour economy while improving convenience and safety for consumers. Mr. Obed Kraine Boachie, Head of Gas and Commercial Regulation at the NPA, also commended the initiative as a timely innovation.
Henos Energy plans to establish 30 Drive-Thru Cylinder Distribution Outlets across Ghana. The company will begin with five outlets in Accra before expanding to the Northern Region and other parts of the country. This expansion is expected to create jobs and bring cleaner energy solutions closer to communities, further supporting national development goals. The company also plans to develop a digital platform for mobile LPG orders.
The Chief Executive Officer of Henos Energy, Mr. Henry Osei Yaw, explained that the concept was inspired by customer feedback over the past five years. Customers consistently requested a complete, accessible, and convenient LPG solution. Beyond cylinder exchanges, the outlets will stock regulators and other LPG accessories for safe and efficient use. Henos Energy will also accept damaged LPG cylinders, replacing them with safe ones in line with the CRM.
This significant step in modernizing LPG distribution is expected to deliver safer, faster, and more convenient services. The expansion of such facilities could also stimulate local economies by creating new employment opportunities. The move aligns with Ghana's long-term energy strategy, which prioritizes accessible and sustainable energy sources for its growing population. This initiative represents a tangible step towards achieving those objectives.
