Ghana produced 5.94 million ounces of gold in 2025, up 23.41% from 4.82 million ounces in 2024, the Ghana Chamber of Mines says. Small-scale miners supplied 3.11 million ounces, or 52.4% of national output. That is the first time in more than a century they have outproduced the large mines.
Small-scale output rose 63.82% from 1.90 million ounces in 2024. Large-scale production fell 2.98% from 2.92 million ounces to 2.83 million ounces, cutting its share from 60.6% to 47.6%. Chamber member companies produced 2.77 million ounces.
Michael Edem Akafia, then Chamber president, presented the figures at the Chamber’s 98th annual general meeting in Accra in June 2026. He linked the small-scale surge in part to reforms including the Ghana Gold Board. Gold’s share of GDP rose from 7.97% in 2024 to 9.98% in 2025.
For 2026 he projected large-scale output of 3.2 to 3.4 million ounces and small-scale of 2.9 to 3.5 million ounces, depending on policy certainty and investment.
