    Ghana has formally entered Phase Two of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Milestone Approach for developing nuclear power infrastructure. The announcement confirms Ghana has moved beyond merely aspiring to develop nuclear power, with several critical components now advanced.

The Nuclear Regulatory Authority Act, 2015 (Act 895), established the necessary regulatory framework, demonstrating a sustained, bipartisan commitment to this agenda across successive governments since its reactivation in 2012.

    Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, made the announcement at the US-Africa Nuclear Summit. He stated, “Ghana has formally entered Phase Two of the International Atomic Energies Agency's milestone approach for developing nuclear power infrastructure.” Mr. Buah emphasized that Ghana is now truly ready, having moved beyond mere aspiration. He highlighted the progress in detailed site studies, institutional strengthening, and engagement with technology vendors.
