The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has scheduled planned power outages for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, impacting communities across the Accra East, Ashanti, and Volta Regions. These disruptions are part of maintenance exercises to enhance service delivery and network reliability.

Affected areas in Accra East include Nanakrom, Little Roses, the University of Professional Studies Accra, AH Hotel, parts of American House, Trinity Theology, and surrounding communities. Power will be interrupted from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Businesses in these areas face potential operational losses due to the eight-hour disruption.

This maintenance follows a series of similar interventions by ECG. Such frequent outages reflect the ongoing investment needs in Ghana's power infrastructure. Reliable power supply is critical for economic growth and business continuity across various sectors.

ECG expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by these exercises. The company advised affected customers to prepare alternative arrangements for power-dependent activities. This proactive communication aims to mitigate the impact on households and businesses during the specified hours.

The recurrent nature of these planned outages underscores the challenges in maintaining a stable power grid. Businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, often bear significant costs from unpredictable power supply. This can impede productivity and investment.

ECG has scheduled multiple maintenance windows across the Ashanti Region. The first outage will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, affecting Takvimian, Abuakwa, Denkyembouso, and several other localities. A second phase, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, will impact Boamang, Kokofu, Asuminya, and surrounding areas. A third outage, also from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, will hit New Edubiase, Asokwa, Hwiremoase, and many more communities. Two more outages, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, will affect Tafo, New Road Junction, Yaw Market, and other parts of the region.

In the Volta Region, a single extensive outage is planned from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This will affect Gakli, Kopeyia, Nakyikope, parts of Akatsi Towns, Ave Towns, and Dzodze. Residents in these areas should prepare for an eight-hour loss of electricity. The long duration poses challenges for cold storage and other essential services.

ECG maintains that these actions are crucial for improving network stability. However, the cumulative effect of these disruptions can slow economic activity. Consistent power remains a key indicator for foreign direct investment and local business expansion.

The company has assured customers of power restoration immediately after the scheduled works. Customers are encouraged to use ECG's official communication channels for further updates. This highlights ECG's commitment to transparency amidst operational challenges.

These planned maintenance activities are part of ECG's broader strategy to upgrade and maintain its equipment. The objective is to reduce unplanned outages and enhance overall service quality for consumers. However, balancing immediate impacts with long-term gains remains a critical challenge for the utility company.
