The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana has deployed four accredited Administrative Media Officers to provide comprehensive coverage of Team Ghana’s participation at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. This strategic move aims to promote disability inclusion and elevate the profile of para sports within Ghana.
These officers, who departed for Scotland on Monday, July 20, 2026, will deliver minute-by-minute reports, photographs, videos, and interviews. They will also produce feature stories and behind-the-scenes coverage of Ghana’s Paralympic contingent throughout the Games. The initiative seeks to capture the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the athletes for audiences back home.
This deployment is a significant milestone for NPC Ghana’s pioneering Media Administrative Officers Programme, which began in 2025. Under the leadership of NPC Ghana and African Paralympic Committee President, Mr. Samson Deen, the programme appointed 38 journalists to various para sport federations and the NPC Ghana Communications Department. This national campaign repositions para sports as a powerful tool for inclusion, empowerment, education, and sporting excellence.
Mr. Samson Deen urged the officers to approach their assignment with discipline, professionalism, and patriotism. He emphasized that their role extends beyond reporting results to telling inspiring stories of the athletes. Mr. Deen stated, “You are not travelling to Glasgow simply to report results. You are going to tell the stories of courage, sacrifice and determination that define our athletes.”
The assignment offers a unique opportunity for the officers to enhance their professional knowledge and practical experience in international sports journalism. They will gain expertise in media operations, digital storytelling, and Paralympic communications. This professional development aligns with the broader goal of integrating communication professionals into Ghana’s para sport development agenda.
The officers include Michael Obeng for the Para Swimming Association, Bill Eshun for the Para Powerlifting Association, and Prince Andrew Dornu Leiku and Theophilus Sampah as NPC Ghana Media-Level Administrative Officers. They will follow athletes like Zinabu Issah, Hayford Addai, and Nkegbe Botsyo in Para Athletics, Promise “Wonder Atsu” Aheto in Para Swimming, and Tahiru Haruna in Para Powerlifting.
Mr. Deen also highlighted that Glasgow 2026 is an important qualification pathway towards the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. He noted that every performance, lesson, and experience will contribute to Ghana’s preparations for LA28. The media officers’ work is expected to educate the public about para sports, promote disability inclusion, and strengthen national support for Ghanaian athletes on the international stage.
