Vivo Energy Acquires TotalEnergies Jordan Operations

Vivo Energy has completed its acquisition of 100 percent of TotalEnergies Marketing Jordan. This transaction officially marks the company's entry into the Jordanian market. It also introduces the Engen retail fuel brand to the Kingdom.

The acquisition includes TotalEnergies Marketing Jordan's network of approximately 180 service stations. It also covers its commercial fuels and lubricants business. This expands Vivo Energy's operational footprint beyond Africa into Jordan. The company now operates about 4,200 service stations across 29 markets globally. These markets span North, West, East, and Southern Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands, and Jordan.

This strategic expansion reflects a broader trend of African-led companies seeking growth opportunities outside the continent. Ghana's economy relies significantly on energy sector stability and foreign direct investment. Such cross-border acquisitions by companies with a strong presence in Africa, like Vivo Energy, demonstrate growing commercial maturity. This expansion could also pave the way for increased trade ties and investment flows between Africa and the Middle East. It highlights the dynamic nature of global energy markets and corporate strategy.

Stan Mittelman, CEO of the Vivo Energy Group, commented on the acquisition. He stated, “This is an important milestone for Vivo Energy as we expand beyond Africa into Jordan, a market with strong fundamentals and a team we have great respect for.” He emphasized that Vivo Energy and its Engen brand are built on African values of customer service. These values, he believes, will resonate strongly in Jordan.

In the coming months, the Engen brand will replace the TotalEnergies brand across service stations in Jordan as part of the transition. Engen is Vivo Energy's owned retail brand. It is currently present in 13 of the company's markets. In South Africa, Engen is the leading fuel brand, with over 1,000 service stations selling one in every four litres of fuel. Vivo Energy's business model relies on empowering local management teams. The company aims to replicate this successful approach in Jordan.

Adel Saadallah has been appointed Managing Director of Vivo Energy Jordan. He will lead operations in the country. Saadallah assured that the transition would not affect employees, dealer agreements, or customer relationships. This commitment to continuity aims to ensure a smooth integration into the new ownership structure. This approach helps maintain market stability and consumer confidence. Decision-makers and market observers will be watching how this integration unfolds and its impact on the local energy sector. The expansion could influence future investment decisions by other major energy players in the region.
