Telecel Ghana planted 10,000 trees this week. The company’s reforestation total now stands at 43,000 trees. This effort marks a significant contribution to environmental sustainability.

Over 250 Telecel Ghana employees participated. Students from Kordiabe R/C Basic School also joined the tree planting. The event took place in the Chipa Tributary Forest Reserve. This location is in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region. It was organised to celebrate World Environment Day. The company partnered with the Ghana Forestry Commission for this activity.

This initiative aligns with the Government of Ghana's broader environmental goals. The nation aims to accelerate its reforestation agenda. Ghana has faced significant forest cover loss over decades. Climate change poses a serious threat to the country. Restoring forests requires substantial resources and cooperation. Telecel Ghana's efforts are one of the largest corporate reforestation drives. The company has committed to planting trees annually for the past five years. Prior to this planting, their total stood at 33,000 trees.

Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, Chief Executive of Telecel Ghana, spoke at the event. She stated that the reforestation exercise demonstrates a long-term commitment. Telecel Ghana believes a connected Ghana must also be a green Ghana. Environmental responsibility is central to their business operations. Linda Ansah, District Manager for Tema-Ada Forest District at the Forestry Commission, expressed gratitude. She noted Telecel's yearly contribution of 10,000 trees is vital for restoring degraded forest reserves. This helps in fighting climate change.

The Chipa Forest Reserve faces threats. These include human encroachment and illegal logging. The trees planted, Acacia and Cassia, are ecologically important. They provide long-term canopy cover. The initiative's success implies continued partnership possibilities. Decisions made regarding corporate social responsibility will likely consider environmental impact. Future tree planting targets may increase based on this success. The private sector's role in national environmental targets is crucial.

Telecel Ghana's environmental programme is part of its sustainability agenda. This agenda focuses on reducing its ecological footprint. Beyond tree planting, the company is reducing its network's carbon footprint. They are expanding solar-powered network exchanges. Investments in digital tools limit the need for physical travel. These actions support Ghana's fight against deforestation. The company aims to plant more trees in the coming years. This commitment makes Telecel Ghana a leading corporate contributor to Ghana's reforestation efforts.
