Stanbic Bank Donates GHS 400,000 for Flood and Fire Relief

Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated GHS 400,000 to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). This donation will support communities affected by recent flooding and fire incidents across Accra and other parts of the country.

This contribution by Stanbic Bank follows a severe downpour and a subsequent fire outbreak on Wednesday, June 3. These events displaced families, disrupted livelihoods, and caused significant hardship for residents and market operators. The bank swiftly mobilised a comprehensive package of essential items.

Ghana consistently faces challenges from natural disasters, especially floods during its rainy seasons. These events often highlight gaps in disaster preparedness and response mechanisms. Financial institutions and corporations frequently step in to provide critical support. Their contributions supplement government efforts and aid recovery. This act aligns with a growing trend of corporate social responsibility in Ghana’s private sector. Companies are increasingly investing in community welfare and national resilience.

Kwamina Asomaning, Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank Ghana, stated the bank's core purpose. He said, At Stanbic Bank, our purpose is Ghana is our home and we drive her growth. Asomaning emphasised that true growth requires thriving communities. He affirmed the bank's commitment to the well-being of the communities it serves. He also noted that natural disasters can unexpectedly disrupt progress.

This donation includes essential protective equipment and food items. These are designed to meet the immediate and medium-term needs of displaced persons. The items comprise wellington boots, raincoats, life jackets, student mattresses, and blankets. Toiletries and mosquito repellents are also part of the package. Food items include rice, cooking oil, tomato puree, and canned fish. Sanitary pads, referred to as dignity kits, are also provided. Stanbic Bank had already invested GHS 8.86 million in corporate social initiatives in 2025. These investments covered education, healthcare, skills training, agriculture, financial wellness, and youth development.

This support from Stanbic Bank will help NADMO with its ongoing relief and recovery efforts. It ensures that affected families receive necessary aid. The donation reinforces the critical role of private sector partnerships in national disaster management. Other corporate entities may follow suit, enhancing collective efforts in responding to future calamitous events. Continued collaboration between the private sector and disaster management agencies remains crucial for building national resilience.
