The Rotary Club of Accra-Airport has marked its 25th anniversary by launching a commemorative coffee table book and premiering a documentary. This event, held at the African Regent Hotel in Accra, celebrated the club's journey and impact over a quarter-century. The initiative aims to preserve the club's history and inspire future service.
The club was officially chartered on April 18, 2000, with an initial membership of 22 individuals. Over the past 26 years, it has significantly expanded its reach and influence. Membership has grown substantially, now standing at 74 active members. This growth underscores the club's sustained appeal and commitment to its mission.
This milestone reflects a broader trend of community engagement and philanthropic efforts within Ghana. Organizations like Rotary clubs play a vital role in addressing social needs and fostering local development. Rotarian David Kwatia Nyante, the President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport, emphasized the significance of the occasion. He stated, “Tonight is therefore not simply about launching a book or watching a documentary. It is about recognizing the people, partnerships, service and fellowship that have shaped our Club.” He also acknowledged the foundational efforts of the late Past District Governor Adotei Brown.
The club's anniversary celebration highlights its enduring commitment to community service and institutional growth. It has chartered three additional clubs: the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City, the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport Enclave, and the Rotaract Club of Accra-Airport. These efforts demonstrate a commitment to expanding Rotary's presence and impact in Ghana. The club has also supported The Rotary Foundation and PolioPlus, achieving notable Rotary milestones. These include becoming a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club and achieving 100% Every Rotarian, Every Year participation. Its membership includes an Arch Klumph Society member, Major Donors, Benefactors, and a Bequest Society member, reflecting strong financial contributions to Rotary's global initiatives.
The commemorative book and documentary were conceived during the 2024–2025 Rotary year as part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations. President Nyante explained the motivation: “After 25 years, we felt it was important to pause, look back, document our journey and preserve our story for those who will come after us.” The project's theme is “Our Rotary Story — Celebrating the Past, Capturing the Present and Inspiring the Future.” This theme underscores the club's forward-looking approach while honoring its rich history.
District Governor Jack Andrews Dotse (PhD) praised the club's legacy, calling 25 years an important milestone. He noted it provides an opportunity to reflect on service, impact, and legacy. Governor Dotse commended the club for extending Rotary by helping establish other clubs. He stated, “One of the marks of a healthy Rotary Club is its ability to extend Rotary to others.” He also emphasized that Rotary’s true legacy is measured by service and impact, not just titles or statistics. The Governor welcomed the establishment of the club’s own Foundation, seeing it as a way to convert goodwill into sustainable impact. This foundation will be crucial for future projects and community support. The anniversary book and documentary will serve as both a celebration and an inspiration for future Rotarians.
