PETROSOL Platinum Energy PLC, a prominent indigenous oil marketing company, has secured approval from the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to raise long-term capital. This significant development will enable the company to fund its ambitious expansion strategy, including investments in renewable energy, solar power, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Managing Director Michael Bozumbil announced this milestone at the Ghana International Petroleum Conference in Accra. He stated that the proceeds from the capital raise would directly support PETROSOL's long-term growth plans. The company aims to innovate within the energy sector and leverage government policies to expand its operations, delivering clean, long-lasting fuel and renewable energy solutions to its customers.
This capital raise reflects a broader trend of Ghanaian companies seeking to strengthen their financial positions and diversify into emerging energy sectors. The government's consistent implementation of policies promoting indigenous private companies has created a conducive environment for firms like PETROSOL to grow. This aligns with Ghana's economic narrative of fostering local content and transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future, as seen in various initiatives supporting renewable energy adoption and local business development.
Mr. Bozumbil emphasized that the GSE and SEC conducted a thorough assessment of PETROSOL’s business. This included evaluating its governance systems, compliance levels, credibility, and growth plans before granting approval. He highlighted the importance of policy consistency for indigenous companies to compete effectively with multinational firms in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
The planned capital raise is expected to significantly strengthen PETROSOL’s financial position. It will also broaden investment opportunities within Ghana’s capital market. Investors will be watching closely for details on the offering and how the funds are deployed. This move could encourage other indigenous companies to explore similar avenues for growth and diversification, further energizing the local stock exchange.
PETROSOL, founded in 2006 as a petroleum business management and consulting firm, entered the oil marketing business in 2014. The company now operates more than 100 fuel stations across Ghana and employs approximately 490 people. Mr. Bozumbil attributed PETROSOL’s consistent growth to strong corporate governance, prudent financial management, and strict regulatory compliance, even amidst challenging economic conditions.
The company has also achieved three International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications. These cover quality management, occupational health and safety, and environmental management. PETROSOL has received recognition from the Ghana Revenue Authority for its tax compliance. It maintains good standing with the National Petroleum Authority, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ghana Standards Authority.
Beyond its core petroleum business, PETROSOL is actively investing in renewable energy. The company plans to install electric vehicle charging stations at selected service stations. This initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader energy transition strategy. Mr. Bozumbil reiterated PETROSOL’s commitment to supporting industry dialogue and encouraging innovation, investment, and sustainable growth, as evidenced by its sponsorship of the 2026 Ghana International Petroleum Conference.
Looking ahead, PETROSOL aims to continue expanding its retail fuel network and growing its renewable energy business. The company also plans to create more jobs. Mr. Bozumbil affirmed that PETROSOL will remain a value-for-money brand, a good corporate citizen, and an employer of choice. The company will continue to energize dreams, ignite hope, and power individuals and businesses in an environmentally sustainable and ethical manner.
