Kobbinah Tuyee Awuah, the Chief Executive Officer of Crown Peak Holdings, has stated that his education at Opoku Ware School profoundly shaped him. Crown Peak Holdings manages popular brands in Ghana, including Pinkberry and Burger King. Mr. Awuah credits his time at the all-boys boarding school for developing his resilience and outlook on life. He shared these insights during an interview on Joy Learning TV and Joy News’s The Career Trail program.
Mr. Awuah described his entry into Opoku Ware School as a significant turning point. He had previously lived in a more sheltered environment. The school was his first experience living independently. This exposed him to many people from different backgrounds. He learned many important life lessons at Opoku Ware. Living on his own taught him valuable skills. The diverse student body broadened his perspective considerably. He also built lasting relationships there. Many of his current business partners are former classmates from Opoku Ware.
His time at Opoku Ware was not without its difficulties. Like many students in Ghana's high schools, he faced challenges. These included intimidating experiences with senior students. Mr. Awuah recalled one senior student who would make him kneel. This happened whenever the senior saw him. Such moments taught him that life is not always fair. He learned that one must adapt to difficult circumstances. These early encounters built his resilience. This quality has been vital throughout his academic and business careers. Mr. Awuah emphasized that this resilience is a key benefit of high school education in Ghana. Opoku Ware School specifically provided this for him.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Awuah views his time at Opoku Ware as highly memorable and impactful. Boarding school life involved unique routines and shared experiences. He called it a 'fantastic experience.' He described it as a 'crazy world' but ultimately a great one. He had a good time and gained significant knowledge. The training he received proved very helpful later in his career. These experiences laid a strong foundation for his professional journey. The school played a key role in his development as a leader and businessman.
